Today’s workout is pretty intense, albeit short. But it involves an important pet peeve of mine: stretching.
How many times do you go to a gym, see people doing a killer workout, and then watch them leave without stretching? It happens to me. Weekly. I go to Bootcamp classes and the instructors don’t build in ANY stretching…at all. They leave 5 minutes at the end and tell people to stretch, and you know what happens? NOBODY and I mean nobody (except yours truly), stretches.
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve never been a fan of stretching. It feels like a waste of time because it’s not a “real” workout. I get it. But think about all the other reasons why we exercise. Because it’s healthy. Because it’s protective. We want to live longer and be stronger. Though it’s difficult to see, these things are greatly enhanced by stretching. Stretching helps us protect ourselves from any musculoskeletal injury.
So I encourage everyone to take some time to stretch- just 5 minutes goes a long way! Try to hold your stretches for about 20 seconds each. It will start to translate in your day to day AND your normal workouts will get better.
